Biography

Maria de Lourdes Pereira is Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Department of Medical Sciences, University of Aveiro, and member of the Associate Laboratory CICECO-Aveiro Institute of Materials. She earned her Ph.D. in Biology (Animal Cytology) at the University of Aveiro working on the effects of some drugs on mice. Her teaching activities include essentially Cytology and Histology, and Cell Biology. She was Director of the Master on Molecular and Cell Biology (2008-2018) at University of Aveiro.

Research Area

Research has been focused on the adverse effects of heavy metals, nanoparticles, and pesticides on animal models, especially male reproductive function, combining histological, cell biology and ultrastructural approaches. She co-authored several papers in international journals and book chapters on reputed publishers; she has been serving as an editorial board member of some journals, acting also as referee.
